Our clients purchased a 1980s modern Rhode Island beach cottage with long distance views to the sea from the second floor living space. The footprint of the house is small but they requested a living room that could accommodate up to 8 guests seated. We furnished with tight back custom frames covered in outdoor performance fabrics. The resulting room is largely neutral – light oatmeal tones with colorful textures on the seat cushions of the club chairs and coordinating seaside crewel work pillows. All are accented with custom made Karen Beckwith Creative throw pillows.
Upholstery is all custom Karen Beckwith Creative.
The upstairs loft is open to the lower level living room. Our program for the space was to create an “occasional use” guest accommodation in a nook off the family room. We created walls with 100 percent linen draperies made custom by Karen Beckwith Creative & Toni Massery.
Navy Blue and white ground three distinct spaces inside and outside of the second floor loft area. In the guest space, the navy blue is accented with brilliant yellow metal camp beds and pendant light.
A triangular shape second floor deck overlooks land and sea. Our objective was to blur the division of inside and outside: our palette of blues, whites and turquoise colors predominant in the view were brought inside. The all glass wall separating the deck from the family room required us to decorate as if it was all one room.
